Tongle Map Poster & Print
Tongle lies in Chongqing municipality in southwestern China, a region where very little land is flat. From above, the town appears as a compact cluster of streets fitted onto the most level ground available, with the terrain rising around it in folds of hills, farm terraces and patches of woodland that fill the rest of the frame.
In this kind of landscape, roads follow the easiest line through the hills rather than straight courses, and the town plan follows the roads. The result is a street pattern of curves and short connecting lanes, with buildings lining the main route and spreading into side streets wherever the ground allows it.
Detailed information about Tongle's individual streets is scarce, so this page describes the town through its setting rather than specific landmarks. A Tongle map poster shows how a settlement in the Chongqing hills takes its form: a knot of streets, winding roads leading away through the countryside, and the fine, irregular lines of the land around it.
