Uden is a town in the northeast of North Brabant, on the sandy ground between the Maas river valley and the Peel. From above, its centre is a tight ring of shopping streets and squares. Around it are orderly residential neighbourhoods on curving streets, then fields, business parks and patches of woodland, a pattern familiar from many Dutch towns but with a character of its own.
To the north lies the Maashorst, one of the largest nature areas in Brabant, with heath, forest and grazing land that appears on the map as a wide, quiet expanse. To the south, the municipality includes Volkel, home to a Royal Netherlands Air Force base whose long runways form one of the most geometric shapes in the area.
