Valfréjus lies in the Maurienne valley in Savoie, in the commune of Modane, close to the Italian border. From above, the resort sits in a narrow side valley, with its buildings grouped at the edge of the forest and the ski runs rising above the tree line toward the higher ridges. Below, Modane fills the floor of the main valley.
The area is best known on the map for the Fréjus tunnels, road and rail routes that pass under the mountains to Italy.
