Warren is the county seat of Trumbull County in north-eastern Ohio, set on the Mahoning River in the Mahoning Valley. From above, the river bends through the city in broad loops. The downtown grid sits close to its banks, arranged around Courthouse Square, the green space at the centre of the historic town plan.
Warren was a centre of the steel and automotive industries. The Packard brothers built their first automobile here in 1899, before the car company moved to Detroit, and Packard Electric remained one of the city's largest employers for decades. The surrounding valley shares that industrial past, linking Warren closely with nearby Youngstown.
