Weilerswist lies in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia, south-west of Cologne. It is really a group of villages rather than one town, spread across the level fields of the Lower Rhine Bay. Its name refers to the Swist, a small river that meets the Erft here, and the two watercourses shape much of the map.
From above, the Erft runs roughly south to north through the municipality with a band of meadows and trees along it. Settlements sit on either side, each with its own compact core of older streets and newer residential edges. The railway toward Cologne and several major roads cross the farmland in long straight lines.
