Wofo lies in the western part of Chongqing municipality, where the steep terrain of the city proper gives way to the lower, rounded hills of the Sichuan Basin. The landscape here is agricultural and heavily worked, with fields and ponds fitted between ridges and small valleys. The town itself is a compact cluster at the meeting point of local roads.
Places like Wofo show a side of Chongqing that most maps of the megacity leave out. Beyond the high-rise districts along the Yangtze and Jialing, the municipality is largely rural, a patchwork of market towns connected by winding roads.
