Yongning forms part of the Nanning area in Guangxi, on the Yong River, which winds through the region in wide, looping bends. The river dominates the map. Its curves set the edges of the built-up areas, and bridges cross it at intervals, connecting the two banks and the roads toward the city centre.
The street pattern mixes older, finer lanes near the water with newer, wider avenues and large blocks further out. Beyond these, the land becomes low hills and farmland. The contrast between the smooth river, the new grid and the rural edge makes an interesting composition on paper.
