Zibihu lies in Eryuan County in Dali Prefecture, in the highlands of northwestern Yunnan north of Erhai Lake. The town takes its name from Cibi Lake, a mountain lake in a long basin enclosed by ridges. On the map, water and terrain dominate, with the settlement fitted into the flat ground between the shore and the slopes.
The built-up area is small and irregular, a cluster of village streets and a few roads that follow the basin floor. Fields fill much of the level land, divided into narrow plots, while the hills around rise quickly and leave the edges of the map largely free of streets.
