Zwedru is the capital of Grand Gedeh County, in the forested southeast of Liberia, not far from the border with Côte d'Ivoire. On the map it is a small town surrounded by a very large area of forest. Its streets gather around the centre, with homes and compounds forming a loose, irregular pattern.
Several main roads leave town in different directions, connecting it to other counties and to the border region. These roads stand out clearly because there is little else nearby. Rivers and streams flow through the forest, and small clearings and villages appear along the routes.
