Compact plateau town
The built-up area is concentrated rather than spread out. That makes the street pattern easy to read as a single shape sitting on the high ground.

Aflou Map Poster & Print
Aflou lies in the Djebel Amour, part of Algeria's Saharan Atlas, at a considerable altitude for the region. On a map it appears as a compact town on high, open ground, with roads leading out across the plateau toward distant settlements. Mountain ridges and dry valleys surround it, and there is very little built land between Aflou and the horizon.
The town is known for its cold winters, which surprise people who think of Laghouat province only as the desert's edge. Snow is not unusual here. The surrounding country has long been associated with pastoral life and with the Ouled Nail and other communities of the highlands. Aflou serves as the main market and service centre for a very large, sparsely populated area.
An Aflou map poster is a study in isolation and focus. The streets are clustered in one tight area, and everything beyond is open terrain and long roads. In a minimalist style, that emptiness becomes part of the design: a small, detailed shape in a large, quiet field.

Radiating roads
Roads run out from the town in several directions across the plateau. On the map they look like long lines connecting Aflou to a scattered region.
Atlas ridgelines
The folded hills of the Djebel Amour rise around the town. They give the surroundings texture and show where the plateau breaks into mountain country.

Anyone from the Djebel Amour who now lives in Algiers, Oran or abroad may want the high town and its open horizons on the wall. It is a sober, precise picture of home, far from the usual images of the Sahara.
Add a name, a date or a line in Arabic or French transliteration to the title and subtitle. Pick one of five styles. You can download the 300 DPI files for $9, or order a matte print from a partner close to where you live.
