Alvalade Map Poster & Print
Alvalade is a residential parish in the north of Lisbon and one of the clearest examples of twentieth-century urban planning in Portugal. It was designed in the 1940s by the architect João Guilherme Faria da Costa. The plan divides it into neighbourhood cells, each grouped around a primary school, with straight avenues between them and green spaces inside the blocks.
Avenida de Roma and Avenida da Igreja are the main axes. They are lined with cafés, shops and the post-war apartment buildings that give the area its consistent character. The long Campo Grande garden runs along the western side, and Sporting's Estádio José Alvalade stands a short way to the north. On a map the result is orderly without being rigid.
An Alvalade map poster brings out the logic of its plan: repeated blocks, clear avenues and open courtyards. It suits people who care about architecture and planning, as well as those who simply live here and know every café on Avenida de Roma. The regular pattern looks especially crisp in the Blueprint and Noir styles.
