The Scalinata
The staircase of Santa Maria del Monte runs straight up the slope in a single axis. It is a rare direct line in the old town and the most recognisable feature of the plan.

Caltagirone Map Poster & Print
Caltagirone stands on high ground in the interior of southeastern Sicily, between the Catania plain and the Erei mountains. The town spreads across three hills, and its streets curl around them in tight bends, drop in steep lanes and meet in small squares. From above, the historic centre has an irregular, almost knotted outline that follows the shape of the land very closely.
The town has been known for ceramics for centuries, and the craft shows up everywhere, from tiled balconies to the famous Scalinata di Santa Maria del Monte, a staircase of 142 steps faced with hand-painted majolica. After the earthquake of 1693 much of the town was rebuilt in late Baroque style, and today it belongs to the UNESCO-listed Val di Noto group.
On a Caltagirone map poster the staircase appears as a short, straight line in a sea of curves, linking the lower town to the church at the top. The Villa Comunale adds a formal park to the plan, and the roads leaving the hill wind down into open countryside, giving the composition a strong sense of height.

Three hills
The historic centre wraps around three high points, so the streets bend and fold in several directions. This creates an intricate, layered pattern at the heart of the map.
Villa Comunale
The public garden sits at the edge of the old town as a clear green shape with formal paths, a calm contrast to the dense, winding streets around it.

ඇයි Caltagirone
අර්ථයක් ඇති සිතියමක්
Caltagirone is remembered by travellers who have climbed the steps, by lovers of Sicilian ceramics and by families with roots in the island's interior. Its folding streets make an elegant print for a hallway, a kitchen or a room already full of painted tiles.
You can edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a trip or a family origin, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand pairs well with warm stone. Download the files for $9 or order a print.
