The fortified headland
The church, castle-lighthouse and small bridge sit together on a rocky point at the edge of the harbour. It is the most recognisable outline on the whole map.

Castro-Urdiales Map Poster & Print
Castro-Urdiales faces the Bay of Biscay on the eastern edge of Cantabria, between Santander and Bilbao. From above, the old town fills a small headland, and its harbour sits in a sheltered curve of the coast. Newer districts climb the slopes behind it and run along the shore to the beaches on either side, so the town is shaped like a crescent opening onto the sea.
The headland is marked by the Gothic church of Santa María de la Asunción and the old castle, which now holds a lighthouse. A medieval bridge links them to a rocky outcrop. Close to Bilbao, the town has grown steadily as a place to live by the sea, and the newer blocks behind the old port show that growth.
A Castro-Urdiales map poster sets that curve of coast against the density of the medieval streets. The harbour walls and breakwaters show up as sharp white lines on the water. Behind them, the tight lanes of the old quarter give way to the wider streets of the modern town, then to the green hills that run along the Cantabrian coast.

Harbour and breakwaters
Long protective walls reach into the bay to shelter the port. On the page they form clean geometric strokes against the open water of the Cantabrian Sea.
Crescent of the bay
The town follows the curve of the coast between beaches to either side. That arc gives the poster a strong, natural composition.
