Craigavon Map Poster & Print
Craigavon was designated as a new town in the mid-1960s and named after James Craig, Lord Craigavon, the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland. The plan was to join the existing towns of Lurgan and Portadown into a single linear city, and the map still shows that idea: two older centres at either end, with a planned landscape between them.
What sets it apart from above is the road system. Instead of a grid, broad distributor roads curve through the area and meet at a long series of roundabouts, while housing estates sit in cells off them with their own internal loops and cul-de-sacs. Separate footpaths and cycle routes run through green corridors, so the map carries two overlapping networks.
In the middle lie the Craigavon Lakes, two man-made bodies of water created as part of the town's drainage, now used for watersports and walking. Lough Neagh is only a few kilometres to the north. A Craigavon map poster reads almost like a planning diagram, which is precisely what makes it interesting to people who know the area.

Craigavon Lakes
Two artificial lakes at the heart of the planned area form the largest shapes on the print, with parkland and paths around their shores.
Two older towns
Lurgan and Portadown anchor the ends of the plan, their traditional street patterns denser and more irregular than the curving estates and open ground laid out between them.

Craigavon divides opinion, which is part of its appeal as a print. For people raised in its estates, or architects and planners curious about the British new-town era, the map is both a personal landmark and a clear record of an ambitious idea.
