Ridge-and-valley grain
Roads and creeks run parallel to the region's long ridges, so the whole map has a directional slant that comes directly from the geology under it.

Dixiana Map Poster & Print
Dixiana is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, Alabama, in the hilly country north of Birmingham. It has no tight downtown grid. Instead its roads trace the terrain, running along valley floors and bending around the long ridges that cross this part of the state from southwest to northeast.
That underlying grain is the most striking part of its map. The Appalachian foothills of north-central Alabama are shaped into parallel folds, so roads, creeks and houses tend to line up in the same direction. Development appears in loose clusters and ribbons rather than blocks, with generous gaps where woodland and steep ground take over.
A Dixiana map poster is about pattern more than landmarks. The long, looping roads and scattered streets make an open, airy composition, very different from a city print, and more a record of how people settle into hilly land than a map of monuments and squares.

Looping county roads
Instead of a grid, Dixiana is connected by curving roads that follow hollows and hillsides, joining small clusters of homes spread across the landscape.
Open wooded ground
Large blank areas between the streets mark forest and steep slopes, which gives the print plenty of breathing space and a lighter overall texture.

ඇයි Dixiana
අර්ථයක් ඇති සිතියමක්
For people who grew up on a winding road outside Birmingham, a map of Dixiana captures something a photograph can't: the way the lanes curve through the hills toward home. It suits a family house, a cabin wall, or anyone who likes maps with space in them.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates to mark a homestead, a wedding or a family reunion. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The warmer Paper and Sand styles work well with the rural feel of this map.
