El Hermel Map Poster & Print
El Hermel sits at the northern end of Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, near the springs of the Orontes, known locally as the Assi. The river runs through a deep green valley close to the town, in sharp contrast with the dry, open land around it. On a map the town spreads across the higher ground, its streets fanning out from a central area along the main roads.
Two monuments give El Hermel wider fame. The Qamouaa el Hermel, an ancient stone tower, stands alone on a hilltop south of the town. By the river is a cave monastery associated with Saint Maron, cut into the rock above the water. The Assi is also known for rafting, which few rivers in Lebanon can offer.
An El Hermel map poster shows a town defined by its setting. It brings together the winding line of the river, the looser street pattern on the plateau and the long roads that run south through the Bekaa and north toward the Syrian border. It is a map of a place shaped by water in a dry land.

Plateau streets
Most of the town spreads across higher, drier ground. Its streets radiate from the centre and thin out into scattered buildings and fields.
Qamouaa el Hermel
South of the town, the ancient stone tower stands on its own hill, a solitary landmark in the open landscape around the settlement.
