Gouré Map Poster & Print
Gouré lies in the Zinder Region of eastern Niger, in the Sahel, where the land opens into wide sandy plains with scattered vegetation. On a map the town is a clearly defined cluster surrounded by a great deal of space. Tracks and roads lead away toward other settlements across the region.
Within the town, streets and compounds form a close-knit pattern typical of Sahelian towns, with open areas used for markets and gatherings. At the edges, the built-up area loosens into the surrounding land. The contrast between the dense centre and the emptiness around it is the defining feature of the map.
A Gouré map poster presents this simple but striking composition. In black and white, the town's streets become a fine textured mark at the centre of the page, with a few roads reaching out across open ground. It is an understated portrait of a town at the southern edge of the Sahara.
