Lagoa Grande Map Poster & Print
Lagoa Grande lies in the interior of Pernambuco, in the São Francisco River valley in northeastern Brazil. On a map the town is a compact grid of blocks. Around it the countryside is divided into the straight-edged parcels of irrigated farms, a sharp contrast with the dry land further from the water.
The municipality is known as part of the São Francisco valley wine region, one of the few places in the world producing wine in a semi-arid tropical climate. Irrigation from the river lets vineyards and orchards grow where the land would otherwise be sparse. A Lagoa Grande map poster shows that relationship between water and cultivation.
From above, the orderly field patterns, the canals and the wide river make a strong composition. The town sits among them as a small urban centre, linked by roads to the larger cities of the valley.

Vineyard parcels
Irrigated vineyards and orchards divide the land into regular rectangles, giving the countryside a grid pattern that is rare in the dry interior.
Compact town grid
The urban area is a tight network of straight streets and small blocks set among the farms. It stands out clearly from the open land.
