Osh is Kyrgyzstan's second-largest city and one of the oldest settlements in Central Asia. It lies on the eastern edge of the Fergana Valley, close to the border with Uzbekistan. From above, its most striking feature is the rocky mass of Sulayman-Too, which rises abruptly from the middle of the city and leaves a clear, unbuilt shape with streets on all sides.
Sulayman-Too has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Ak-Buura river flows through the city nearby, lined by parks and crossed by several bridges. Along its banks spreads the old bazaar, one of the largest in the region. Beyond the centre, residential streets extend in a looser pattern into the valley.

Ak-Buura river
The river runs through the city from the mountains to the south. It gives the map a gentle flowing line, flanked by green strips and bridges.
