Summit cathedral
The cathedral stands at the highest point of the town, and the older streets climb toward it from several sides, so it acts as the natural anchor of the whole map.

Piazza Armerina Map Poster & Print
From above, Piazza Armerina looks like a town shaped by its hill. The old quarters spread down the slopes in tight, irregular blocks, and the lanes bend to follow the ground instead of a grid. At the top sits the cathedral, and the streets seem to gather toward it. Further out the pattern loosens into newer roads and then into the farmland of inland Sicily.
The town is best known for the Villa Romana del Casale, a late Roman estate a short distance to the southwest. Its floor mosaics are among the most extensive to survive from the ancient world, and the site is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Each August the town also holds the Palio dei Normanni, a pageant recalling the Norman period in Sicily's past.
A Piazza Armerina map poster captures the difference between the dense medieval core and the looser layout around it. In black and white, the contour of the hill shows through the way the streets bunch and curve. Main roads leave the centre in several directions and fade into the rural network, so the town reads as a compact knot set in a wide, quiet landscape.

Medieval street pattern
The historic quarters are made of narrow, irregular lanes and small blocks that follow the slope. On paper they form a fine, dense texture that stands out clearly from the newer districts.
Roads into the countryside
Past the edge of town the street network thins out quickly. A few roads run on across the hills of central Sicily, including the route toward the Roman villa to the southwest.
