Valley basin
The town fills a relatively flat basin among the Wuling hills, and the outer edge of its streets traces the point where level ground gives way to slopes.

Pingkai Map Poster & Print
Pingkai is the central town of Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, in the far southeast of Chongqing near the borders with Guizhou and Hunan. The area belongs to the Wuling mountain region, and the map makes that obvious: the built-up area occupies a comparatively level basin, with ridges and slopes pressing in from around it.
Inside that basin, the town forms a dense mesh of streets, with newer districts laid out in broader blocks and older sections showing narrower, less regular lanes. Roads leave through the gaps between hills, following valleys rather than straight lines. Small rivers and streams wind through the lower ground, adding curves that contrast with the town's more ordered centre.
A Pingkai map poster shows how the town has used every bit of flat ground it has. The edges of the street network follow the contours of the land, so even in a plain black-and-white drawing you can sense the mountains that aren't drawn. It is a compact, grounded image of a county seat in a border landscape.

Roads through gaps
Routes out of town follow valleys and passes between ridges, so they curve and bend on the map instead of running in straight lines toward neighbouring places.
Winding waterways
Streams and small rivers cross the lower ground, giving the drawing a few soft, meandering lines among the denser grid of the town centre.
