Puthenvelikara Map Poster & Print
Puthenvelikara is in the north of Ernakulam district, near North Paravur, in the low country where Kerala's rivers slow down and spread into backwaters before reaching the sea. Water shapes almost everything here. The land sits only just above it, and the village is well known for how badly it was hit during the 2018 Kerala floods, when the surrounding rivers rose over it.
From above, the place looks less like a town than a web of settlement along water. Roads follow the dry ground between channels, and houses line them in long ribbons. Small islands and inlets break up the map, so the linework has an irregular, organic rhythm that is very different from a planned grid.
A Puthenvelikara map poster captures that balance between land and water. Rivers and backwater arms become broad pale bands, and the roads trace the narrow ground between them. In black and white the layout turns abstract and delicate, a reminder of how closely life in this corner of Kerala follows the course of the water.

Ribbon settlement
Houses and roads run in long lines along the higher ground, so the settlement is threaded rather than clustered and reads as a network of fine strands.
Islands and inlets
Pockets of land cut off by water give the edges of the map an intricate outline, with shorelines folding in and out around small islands.
