The cités built for potash workers form neat, repeating blocks of streets and garden plots. They are the most distinctive pattern on the map.

Wittenheim Map Poster & Print
Wittenheim lies in Haut-Rhin, just north of Mulhouse, on the flat ground of the upper Rhine plain. On a map it is a mix of patterns: an older village core with irregular streets, and around it the regular, carefully planned housing estates of the twentieth century. Fields and woodland lie beyond, and the roads toward Mulhouse link the town to the wider urban area.
Wittenheim grew with the Alsace potash basin. Mining companies built cités minières here, estates of worker housing with gardens, laid out along tree-lined streets in geometric blocks. The mines have long since closed, but those neighbourhoods still define much of the town's shape and give it an identity distinct from its larger neighbour.
A Wittenheim map poster shows that layered history. The older centre, the orderly lines of the mining estates and the open land around them each have their own texture, and together they make a varied composition. It is a map of a working town that still carries the mark of its industrial past.

Village core
The original village centre has older, less regular streets. It contrasts with the planned estates around it and marks where the town began.
Rhine plain setting
The land around Wittenheim is flat, with fields and patches of forest. It creates a calm, open border around the built-up area and toward Mulhouse.
