Valley setting
The town fills the lower ground between the mountains, and its outline follows the land rather than any regular plan.

Zemljevid
Baynjiwayn Map Poster & Print
Baynjiwayn, also spelled Penjwen, lies in the Sulaymaniyah governorate of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, close to the border with Iran. The setting is mountainous, and the map shows it clearly. The town's streets fit into the available low ground, and roads leave it by following valleys rather than running in straight lines.
As a border town, it has long been connected with cross-border trade and travel. The surrounding highlands are colder and greener than much of Iraq, and the seasons, including winter snow, shape daily life here.
A Baynjiwayn map poster brings out the relationship between town and terrain. The compact street network sits in its valley, and the winding roads show how the mountains dictate every route. Even without contour lines, the land's shape is legible in the way the roads bend.

Winding mountain roads
Routes in and out of town curve to follow valleys and slopes, which gives the map its most expressive lines.
Border location
Sitting close to the Iranian border, the town sits at the edge of the country, a fact visible in how few roads extend east.
