Bielany is a district in the northwest of Warsaw, stretching from the Vistula riverbank inland toward the edge of the Kampinos Forest. Its map is shaped by greenery. Bielany Forest occupies a large section along the river escarpment, and wide parks and allotment gardens break up the residential areas, giving the district an unusually open pattern for a capital city.
In the forest stands the Camaldolese monastery and church, founded in the seventeenth century, whose historic grounds give the area its name. Bielany is also home to the Academy of Physical Education and to Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University. At its northern edge, the Młociny station ends Warsaw's first metro line.
