Blacksburg Map Poster & Print
Blacksburg sits on a plateau in the New River Valley of south-west Virginia, between the Blue Ridge and the ridges of the Alleghenies. The map is dominated by two shapes: the small grid of the original town, laid out in 1798 as sixteen squares, and the much larger spread of the Virginia Tech campus immediately to its west.
Virginia Tech, founded in 1872 as a land-grant college, has become the town's defining feature, and many of its buildings are faced in the grey limestone known locally as Hokie Stone. At the heart of campus lies the Drillfield, a large oval lawn ringed by a single road, easy to pick out from above as a clear, empty shape.
A Blacksburg map poster places that campus at the centre of a town of curving residential streets, wooded hillsides and farmland. The contrast between the neat downtown squares, the oval of the Drillfield and the looser suburbs gives it an unusually readable layout, ideal for graduates who remember every route between class and home.

Sixteen Squares
The original 1798 town plan of sixteen blocks survives in the downtown grid around Main Street, a small, regular pattern among the later curving streets.
Huckleberry Trail
A paved trail runs from Blacksburg toward neighbouring Christiansburg along the route of a former railway, drawing a thin, steady line out of town.
