Cacimba de Dentro is a municipality in the Curimataú region of Paraíba, in Brazil's semi-arid northeast, close to the uplands around Araruna. The town is compact, a cluster of streets and blocks around its centre. On the map the land around it is a loose network of rural roads, small farms and the winding courses of streams that flow only after rain.
The name itself says something about the region. A cacimba is a hand-dug well or water hole, often made in a dry riverbed to reach the water below the sand, and such wells have long been essential in the sertão.
