Cannock Chase edge
Forest and heathland form a broad open area on the northern side of the map. Only a handful of roads and tracks cross it, and it frames the town like a margin.

Cannock Map Poster & Print
Cannock is a market town in Staffordshire, between the West Midlands conurbation and the open heathland of Cannock Chase. The contrast on a map is immediate. To the north lies a large area of forest and heath with only a few tracks, while the town spreads out as a dense web of residential streets, estates and main roads around a compact centre.
The town grew quickly with coal mining in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its layout shows that growth, with terraces and later housing estates filling the ground between older villages. The Roman road of Watling Street, now the A5, runs just south of the centre, and the M6 Toll passes nearby, drawing long straight lines across the edges of the map.
Cannock Chase became an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958 and is one of the smallest such areas on mainland Britain. It remains the town's great open space. A Cannock map poster pairs the tight grain of the town with the wide, quiet expanse of the Chase, and that balance gives the composition a strong sense of place.

Watling Street
The Roman road, now the A5, runs as a long straight line near the town centre. It is a reminder of routes that crossed this part of England long before mining arrived.
Estates and villages
Housing estates and former mining villages join into a continuous web of curving closes and through roads, a varied texture that fills the rest of the frame.
