Mississippi riverfront
The river forms the whole eastern edge of the city, wide and scattered with islands and backwaters. It gives the map a strong, flowing boundary against the street grid.

Clinton Map Poster & Print
Clinton lies on the west bank of the Mississippi River in eastern Iowa, facing Fulton, Illinois, across the water. The city stretches along the river for several miles, and that long shoreline defines its map. Streets run in a band parallel to the water, with bluffs behind and neighbourhoods climbing away from the riverfront. Islands, backwaters and side channels break up the river's edge.
In the nineteenth century Clinton grew rich on the timber trade. Logs were floated down the Mississippi to sawmills along its banks, and the city was once called a lumber capital. Clinton later absorbed the neighbouring town of Lyons to the north, which explains the two older street grids on the plan. Road bridges cross to Illinois, and a rail bridge spans the river nearby.
A Clinton map poster is a portrait of a river town. The Mississippi fills much of the frame, its islands and sloughs drawn in careful detail, and the city lines up along it like one long street. It suits people from Clinton and the surrounding region, and anyone fond of the upper Mississippi.

Bridges to Illinois
Road and rail bridges cross the Mississippi to Fulton and the Illinois shore. They are drawn as fine lines spanning the broad water between two states.
Lyons district
To the north, the former town of Lyons, merged into Clinton in the 1890s, keeps its own street grid and small centre. It is visibly distinct from downtown to the south.

Zakaj Clinton
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
River towns hold a particular kind of attachment: the view from the bluff, the bridge home, the sound of barges. This map puts that relationship at the centre, and in black and white the water and islands read with unusual clarity. It fits a living room, a cabin or an office far from the Midwest.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a family name, a graduation year or a line about the river, and keep or edit the coordinates. Choose from five styles. The $9 download covers six sizes: 30×40 cm, 50×70 cm, A3, A2, 18×24″ and 24×36″.
