The canalised Dee
The river's lower course runs in a remarkably straight man-made channel, giving the poster a strong diagonal spine that contrasts with the looser street pattern on either side.

Deeside Map Poster & Print
Deeside is less a single town than a chain of communities along the lower River Dee in Flintshire, including Connah's Quay, Shotton and Queensferry. From above, the river itself is the defining line. It was straightened into a canalised channel in the eighteenth century and runs almost dead straight toward the widening estuary, with housing gathered along its banks and broad industrial plots spread across the flat ground nearby.
The land here was won from marsh and tidal sand, which is why the map feels so level and open. Long roads run parallel to the water, rail lines trace the edge of the estuary, and the large rectangular footprints of factories and depots sit beside terraced streets. The English border and the city of Chester lie only a few miles to the east.
Deeside has long been tied to heavy industry, from the steelworks at Shotton to aircraft wing manufacturing at nearby Broughton. A Deeside map poster captures that working landscape in black and white. River, bridges, rail and streets become clean lines, and the estuary opens out between Flintshire and the Wirral toward the Irish Sea.

River crossings
Several bridges carry road and rail over the Dee, including the cable-stayed Flintshire Bridge at Connah's Quay, each one a crisp stroke across the channel.
Industrial ground
Large rectangular plots of industrial parks and works sit on the flat reclaimed land, forming bold geometric blocks that balance the finer grain of the residential streets.

Zakaj Deeside
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
For people who grew up in Connah's Quay or Shotton, or who worked at the plants along the river, this map holds a familiar geography of shifts, commutes and walks by the water. It also suits anyone drawn to industrial landscapes, where function shapes every line.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a family name or a meaningful date, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the engineered river especially well. Download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
