River confluence
The Auglaize flows into the Maumee at the heart of the city, dividing it into sections and giving the map a clear Y-shaped structure of water.

Defiance Map Poster & Print
Defiance sits in northwestern Ohio where the Auglaize River joins the Maumee, and that meeting of waters is the key to its map. The point between the two rivers was the site of Fort Defiance, built by General Anthony Wayne's army in 1794, and today a park occupies the spot. The city's streets spread out from the confluence on both banks.
The downtown grid lies close to the rivers, and bridges tie the separate parts of the city together. Defiance College adds a campus on the north side, and residential neighbourhoods reach out along the main roads into the flat, farmed country that surrounds the city on every side. From above, the two rivers split the city into distinct wedges.
A Defiance map poster places the confluence at its centre, with the Maumee and Auglaize drawn as broad curving lines between the street grids. It is a strong, readable composition, and one where the geography clearly explains why the city was founded exactly here.

Fort Defiance site
The point between the rivers, where Anthony Wayne's fort stood in 1794, is now parkland, a green wedge at the centre of the map.
Bridges and grid
Several bridges tie together the street grids on each bank, and the downtown blocks near the rivers form the most regular part of the poster.

Zakaj Defiance
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Defiance is a meaningful map for alumni of Defiance College, for families from the Maumee valley and for anyone interested in the history of the Ohio frontier. The rivers and the fort site tell the story at a glance.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, maybe a graduation year or a family name, and choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The river lines look especially fine in Blueprint.
