Dubai runs along the coast of the Arabian Gulf in a long, narrow band, with most development between the shore and the desert inland. The historic heart lies around Dubai Creek, a natural inlet that divides Deira on one side from Bur Dubai on the other. On a map, the creek is the one old, winding line in a city otherwise shaped by planning.
Sheikh Zayed Road runs parallel to the coast as the main axis, lined with towers including the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
