Railroad line
The rail line that gave Ferguson its start cuts through the city at an angle. On the poster it is a strong diagonal that interrupts the regular street grid.

Ferguson Map Poster & Print
Ferguson is a city in north St. Louis County, Missouri, a short distance from Lambert airport and about twenty minutes from downtown St. Louis. It began as a railroad town in the nineteenth century, named after William B. Ferguson, who gave land for a station. The rail line still crosses the city and remains a clear feature of its map.
Its layout is typical of older American suburbs: a historic downtown along South Florissant Road, residential grids of tree-lined streets, and long commercial avenues such as West Florissant. Parks and creek valleys break up the pattern. In 2014 Ferguson became known worldwide after the death of Michael Brown and the protests that followed.
A Ferguson map poster shows the city as its residents know it, beyond the headlines: a place of neighbourhoods, schools, parks and a small downtown. The grid of streets, the diagonal rail line and the green gaps of the creeks form a balanced composition that is both ordinary and specific to this community.

Historic downtown
The small commercial centre along South Florissant Road forms a clear focal point, with a denser pattern of blocks than the surrounding residential streets.
Creeks and parks
Park land and creek valleys, including January-Wabash Park, create open spaces within the grid and give the map a gentler rhythm.
