Large residential blocks
Housing estates and compounds form big, enclosed blocks with paths inside them. This coarse grain is typical of recent development in outer Shanghai.

Gaojing Map Poster & Print
Gaojing is a town in Baoshan District, on the northern side of Shanghai. It lies on the flat land of the Yangtze River Delta, and from above it looks like much of outer Shanghai. Large residential compounds and business parks sit between wide main roads and elevated expressways. Older creeks and channels still thread through the pattern.
Like many places on the edge of the city, Gaojing changed rapidly as Shanghai grew outward, and most of its farmland gave way to housing and commercial areas. Its closeness to the central districts means it now belongs to the daily life of the city and no longer feels like a separate place.
A Gaojing map poster captures that urban texture: the oversized blocks typical of recent Chinese development, the sweeping curves of the expressways, and the thin lines of the water network that is older than all of them. Without colour, the drawing becomes a study in scale and contrast, and an easily recognised record of home.

Expressways
Elevated roads cross the area in broad curves and straight lines. They are the most prominent shapes on the map and the main links to the rest of the city.
Delta creeks
Narrow waterways, left over from the old delta landscape, run between the blocks. Their soft, irregular lines contrast with the planned road network.
