The common
Gerrards Cross Common forms a large open area close to the centre, giving the map a calm, empty space around which the town arranges itself.

Gerrards Cross Map Poster & Print
Gerrards Cross lies in south Buckinghamshire, northwest of London, and its map is dominated by greenery and space. Large plots, winding lanes and wooded areas give the town an open, low-density pattern, with the common forming a broad clear area near the centre. The streets feel planned around trees rather than traffic.
The town grew as a commuter settlement after the railway arrived in the early twentieth century, and the Chiltern line still links it to London Marylebone. In 2005 a tunnel being built over the railway to carry a new supermarket partially collapsed, an event that made national news and closed the line for weeks.
A Gerrards Cross map poster shows a place defined by its gaps: the common, the woods and the generous gardens between roads. In black and white these open spaces become quiet fields around the fine lines of lanes, while the railway and the main road cut decisive strokes across the composition.

Railway line
The Chiltern line runs through the town, partly in cutting, drawing a firm line that recalls why Gerrards Cross grew as a commuter settlement.
Wooded lanes
Curving residential roads and wide plots spread outward into woodland, producing a loose, organic pattern quite unlike a dense town centre.
