The airfield runway
A long, perfectly straight strip south of the town, the runway at Oberpfaffenhofen stands out against the curving residential streets as the boldest single line on the map.

Gilching Map Poster
Gilching sits on the gravel plain west of Munich in the district of Starnberg, and from above it looks like several villages that have grown into one another. Residential streets spread in loose, looping patterns, broken by open fields and patches of woodland. The S-Bahn line to Munich runs through the town, and the A96 motorway passes along its northern side.
The area has been settled for a very long time; a Roman road once crossed this plain, and finds from that period have been made locally. Today the town is better known for its proximity to the Oberpfaffenhofen airfield and aerospace research site on its southern edge, whose long runway is one of the most distinctive straight lines on the local map.
A Gilching map poster captures a particular kind of Bavarian place: suburban in rhythm, rural at its edges, with the Alps out of frame but not far away. The cul-de-sacs and residential loops contrast with the hard geometry of the runway and motorway, giving the composition both softness and structure, and leaving plenty of pale farmland around the built-up areas.

Rail to Munich
The S-Bahn line runs through the settlement toward the city, dividing neighbourhoods and giving the map a clear axis around which the town's streets arrange themselves.
Fields between districts
Open farmland still separates parts of the town, so the map shows distinct clusters of streets with pale gaps between them rather than one continuous built-up mass.

Zakaj Gilching
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Gilching is the kind of place people choose deliberately, close to Munich yet surrounded by fields and lakes. A map of it is a quiet reminder of a first house, a childhood street or a daily commute that slowly became home.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a moving-in date, and pick one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Blueprint or Sand. The $9 download includes six print sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
