Higashikurume is a small city in the western part of Tokyo Metropolis, on the flat Musashino plateau near the border with Saitama. It is mostly residential, and the map shows a dense, fine texture of narrow lanes and small blocks, with few large open spaces. Main roads and railway lines cross this fabric and give it structure.
Seibu railway lines connect the city directly to Ikebukuro and central Tokyo, and many residents commute into the city each day.
