Jālq is a town in Sistan and Baluchestan, in south-eastern Iran, close to the border with Pakistan. The surrounding region is arid and mountainous, and settlements here depend on careful use of water, often from seasonal streams and traditional irrigation, to support date palms and small fields.
On a map, the town forms a compact cluster of streets and lanes, with the cultivated land around it appearing as irregular patches set against a much larger expanse of dry terrain. Roads lead out across the desert toward neighbouring towns, following valleys and the lower ground between hills.
