Jauharabad is the administrative centre of Khushab District in Pakistan's Punjab province. It was developed as a planned town after independence and is named after Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar, a leader of the independence movement. On a map, the planned origin shows clearly in its regular blocks and straight streets.
The town lies on the plain between the Jhelum River and the Salt Range, the line of hills to the north. The surrounding land is agricultural, with fields and irrigation channels spreading out beyond the edges of the town. Main roads connect Jauharabad with Khushab and other towns in the district.
Compared with older towns in the region, which grew around winding bazaars, Jauharabad has an orderly, geometric layout that gives it a distinctive look from above.
