Valley grid
The town's streets form a clear, fairly regular pattern set within a valley, which reads cleanly against the surrounding empty terrain.

Jiagedaqi Map Poster & Print
Jiagedaqi is the administrative seat of Heilongjiang's Daxing'anling Prefecture, but it sits on land that belongs to Inner Mongolia. This unusual arrangement makes it one of the oddities of China's administrative map. The town lies in the Greater Khingan Mountains, a vast, cold and heavily forested region in the far north of the country.
On a map, the town appears as a fairly regular grid of streets set in a valley. The layout is concentrated and practical, and the land around it quickly turns to forested hills. The town grew up around forestry and the railway that opened up the region, and those origins show in its orderly plan.
A Jiagedaqi map poster shows a compact settlement surrounded by wilderness. Winters here are long and severe, and the town serves as a gateway to the forest lands further north. Its tidy street pattern set against the open forest makes a quiet, spacious composition.

Forest in every direction
Beyond the edge of town, the Greater Khingan forest takes over and leaves wide, blank margins across much of the frame.
Railway town
A railway line runs through the town and connects it to the rest of the northeast. It was key to the forestry development that shaped Jiagedaqi.
