Johnstown Map Poster & Print
Johnstown sits deep in a valley in western Pennsylvania, where the Stonycreek River and the Little Conemaugh River join to form the Conemaugh. From above, the downtown grid fills the flat point between the rivers. Neighbourhoods climb the hillsides and spread along narrow side valleys, and in many places steep ground stops the streets short.
The city is known for the Johnstown Flood of 1889, when the South Fork Dam upstream failed and water swept through the valley, killing more than two thousand people. Johnstown later became a major steel centre. The Johnstown Inclined Plane, built after the flood, still carries passengers and vehicles up the hillside above the rivers.
A Johnstown map poster makes the terrain easy to read. The rivers draw a Y through the frame. A dense grid sits in the fork, and the surrounding streets bend to follow slopes that the map shows only through their absence. Rail lines and former mill sites run along the water. The composition is compact and strongly shaped by the valley.

Inclined Plane
A steep funicular climbs from the valley floor to the hilltop neighbourhood above. On the map its short, straight track cuts across the slope.
Hillside neighbourhoods
Streets on the valley walls twist and switch back to follow the ground. They form looser patterns above the tight grid below.

Zakaj Johnstown
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Johnstown is a city people remember strongly: the hills, the rivers, the mills and the story of the flood. A clean map of the valley gives former residents and their families something lasting to hang.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family name or a year. Then choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir shows the steep valley shape especially well.
