Masindi is a district town in Uganda's Western Region, spread across gently rolling farmland well to the east of Lake Albert. Its map is uncomplicated: a central area of straight streets and trading plots, with roads reaching out into cultivated fields and scattered homesteads. The town is best known as a gateway to Murchison Falls National Park, the country's largest protected area, and to the Budongo Forest, a large tropical forest reserve known for its chimpanzees.
