The town sits in a valley surrounded by dry, bare hills, and on a map the contrast is striking: a compact urban centre, a band of orchards and gardens around it, then open, rugged country beyond.
The orchards are the town’s identity. N’Gaous is known throughout Algeria for its apricots, and its name appears on a well-known brand of fruit juice.
