Oued el Abtal is a town in Mascara Province in northwestern Algeria. It sits in agricultural country between the coastal plains and the Tell Atlas ranges. From above, the town forms a compact settlement of streets and blocks around a centre, with main roads leading out to neighbouring towns and the provincial capital.
The land around the town is largely farmed. Fields spread across the plain in broad plots, divided by rural roads and tracks, and the terrain rises toward hills in the distance. Watercourses, many of them seasonal, cross the area in winding lines, and the name of the town itself refers to a wadi, a valley that holds water only at certain times of year.
