Potchefstroom Map Poster & Print
Potchefstroom was founded in 1838 by Voortrekkers and is regarded as the oldest town in what was once the Transvaal. It later served as the first capital of the South African Republic before the seat of government moved to Pretoria. On a map, that origin still shows in the long, straight streets of the centre, set out in a disciplined grid.
Much of the town's present character comes from education. The main campus of North-West University occupies a large area close to the centre, bringing lawns, sports fields and residences into the street pattern. Along the Mooi River the plan softens into trees, parkland and open ground, a green edge that frames the straight streets and gives the town its one curving line.
A Potchefstroom map poster suits students, graduates and long-time residents alike, anyone who has walked the avenues between campus, church and home. The combination of a strict historic grid, a winding river and the broad open spaces of the university makes for a balanced composition, clear enough to read at a glance and detailed enough to reward a closer look.

University campus
North-West University's main campus forms a large open area of lawns, sports fields and buildings, a lighter block within the tighter street pattern around it.
Mooi River
The Mooi River winds past the town, its tree-lined banks adding a curving, organic line to a plan otherwise ruled by straight streets and right angles.
