Rājgurunagar is the headquarters of Khed taluka in Pune district, set on the banks of the Bhima River in the Deccan uplands of Maharashtra. From above, the river curves along the edge of town, and the older lanes gather near it. The main highway towards Nashik runs straight through the settlement, and newer development spreads along it.
The town was long known as Khed and was later renamed after Shivaram Rajguru, the revolutionary from the independence movement who was born here. His name gives the place a significance well beyond its size, and his birthplace near the river is a local point of reference.
