Rwamagana sits on the main road east of Kigali and serves as the seat of Rwanda's Eastern Province. From above, the town follows that highway: one strong line crosses the sheet, and shorter streets branch off it onto the surrounding slopes. Rwanda is often called the land of a thousand hills, and here the pattern of ridges and hollows shapes every road.
Beyond the built-up centre, the map loosens into a scatter of lanes, footpaths and small clusters of homes on the hillsides. Wider views catch the edges of Lake Muhazi to the north and Lake Mugesera to the south. Their long, fingered shorelines stand out against the land and give the composition a natural frame.
