San Pedro is a city in the province of Laguna, just south of Metro Manila, on the western shore of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines. On the map, a long lakeshore edge runs along the east. Inland, the land fills with residential subdivisions, each with its own small loop of streets, joined by a few busy through-roads.
Among the many towns that ring the lake, San Pedro is often called the sampaguita capital of the Philippines, after the fragrant jasmine that is the national flower. Its position on the main corridors south of the capital means it has grown quickly. Daily life leans heavily toward Manila, while the city keeps its own centre near the church and the lake.
