Shaker Lakes
The Shakers dammed Doan Brook for mill power, and the small lakes they created now form a winding band of water and parkland across the north of the city.

Shaker Heights Map Poster & Print
Shaker Heights was laid out in the early twentieth century by the Van Sweringen brothers, on land once farmed by the North Union Shaker community. Their plan shows clearly from above. Broad boulevards run east from Cleveland, while residential streets curve and loop between them in patterns deliberately unlike the city grid next door.
Near the northern edge, Doan Brook and the Shaker Lakes form a green corridor of water and woodland that breaks the street pattern into separate pieces. Rapid transit lines run down the medians of the main boulevards, a feature designed into the suburb from its early years, so the strongest straight lines on the map are also its commuter routes.
From the 1950s onward the city became known for deliberate efforts to support racially integrated neighbourhoods. A Shaker Heights map poster captures the physical side of the place, its carefully designed streetscape, in clean black lines. The curve of every crescent and the length of every boulevard can be read at a glance.

Boulevard rail lines
Shaker Boulevard and Van Aken Boulevard carry light-rail tracks in their central medians, drawing long straight lines eastward from Cleveland across the whole plan.
Curving residential streets
Between the boulevards, streets bend into ovals, crescents and gentle arcs. This garden-suburb design sets Shaker Heights apart from the rectangular grid of neighbouring Cleveland.

Zakaj Shaker Heights
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
The Shaker Heights plan is one of the more graceful suburban layouts in the Midwest, and it looks like a drawing in its own right. It suits former residents, people who love architecture and planning, and anyone who has walked the paths around the lakes.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a street name, a graduation year or a moving-in date, and adjust the coordinates line. Pick one of five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and choose between $9 HD files and a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
