The Xin River
The river crosses the city as a broad, pale band. Its gentle bends give the composition a natural axis, with the densest streets gathered along both banks.

Shangrao Map Poster & Print
Shangrao sits in the northeast corner of Jiangxi, close to the borders with Zhejiang, Fujian and Anhui, and its role as a crossroads shows clearly on paper. The Xin River crosses the urban area from east to west. The city's older blocks stay close to its banks, and newer districts spread across the flatter ground beyond. Rail lines and expressways run in long strokes across the frame.
On a Shangrao map poster, the city becomes a contrast between dense street networks and the open ground around them. Bridges join the two riverbanks at regular intervals, and the grid of the newer quarters turns into winding lanes where the land begins to rise. The hills around the basin appear as quiet, lightly textured margins that give the composition room.
The wider prefecture is known for Mount Sanqing, a granite range listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for the Huizhou-style villages of Wuyuan, famous for their spring rapeseed fields. Neither fits within a city-centre frame, but both explain why so many people know the name: Shangrao is often the starting point for trips into some of the most photographed landscapes in eastern China.

Bridges and crossings
Road and rail bridges cross the Xin at intervals. On the map they read as fine stitches holding the two halves of the city together.
Hill-edged basin
Beyond the last residential blocks, the street network thins where the terrain rises. This leaves soft, open edges that frame the urban core on every side.
